Various Types Of Garage Flooring Tiles
Garage flooring tiles are essential to protect the garage against abuse. Floors can be stained from fluids that leak from cars or are spilled on the floor, creating an unsightly look. Importantly, soiled garage floors can also increase the chances of accidents. There are several types of garage floor tiles available in the market these days.
Soft Garage Flooring Tiles
Soft garage floor tiles are usually manufactured from PVC vinyl and last for a longer time. These tiles belong to the peel and stick varieties. Adhesive is smeared on the back of the tile at the time of manufacturing and it is covered by a plastic covering. At the time of installation you are only required to peel off the covering and stick the tile to the garage floor.
The height of the soft type of floor covering is not very high so you do not need to be bothered about great rises in your floor. They are quite safe for children to run in and out of the garage. These tiles do not allow leaks and spills to go through to the floor easily and this facilitates the cleaning process.
However, they have disadvantages as well. These peel and stick tiles for the floor cannot be taken apart after they have been fixed. If moving is on the cards and you would like to take your floor covering with you then rigid floor tiles are a more appropriate solution for you.
Rigid Flooring Tiles
Rigid floor tiles for the garage are generally manufactured from polypropylene and are available in solid and perforated varieties. Spills can drain through the perforated garage floor tiles onto the concrete floor below it. This has the advantage that the floor tile surface remains safe and dry. But liquids that go down to the floor are hard to clean and they tend to become moldy in the absence of adequate ventilation.
Solid rigid floor tiles for the garage are similar to their soft counterparts but minus the drain holes. The solid varieties are heavier than the perforated variety and they do not allow liquids to drain.
Rigid garage floor tiles are usually installed using a mechanism that interlocks the two sides of the tiles. This makes sure that the tiles are secured with each other. A number of manufacturers also create an edging. This is installed around the border of the garage to present a clean and complete look. Another kind of flooring cover for your garage is the interlocking flexible garage floor tiles. It is easy to walk and stand on these types of tiles for longer durations. They are available in a number of colors, patterns and designs.
Wood Composite Flooring Tiles
Another type of tiles that can be used for the flooring of the garage is wood composite tiles. They offer a barrier of polyethylene moisture on the base that keeps the top surface dry. The biggest advantage is that they have a thickness of seven eighths of an inche and can support weight of about four thousand pounds per square foot. They offer easy installation and do not require any kind of adhesives. Wood tends to expand to expand or contract with variations in climate, so it is better to leave a gap of quarter around the boundaries.
Prior to the purchase of your garage flooring tiles it is advisable to make a comparative study of the quality, price and features of the tiles and then buy the tiles from offline or online retail outlets.
