Epoxy Floor Paint For Home Use
Commercial businesses needing to cover a concrete floor should consider the several brands of epoxy floor paint available. These coatings provide a long lasting seal and are easy to maintain. There are many colors and applications available including coatings that provide a rough non slip surface and speckled color schemes. Applying an epoxy system is as easy as painting.
Commercial enterprises such as auto dealerships and garages require a floor that is tough and can withstand heat, dirt and salt and oil or chemical spills. Providing such a tough finish cannot be accomplished with standard floor coverings. It is not realistic to apply tiles or other floor coverings to a space that will receive extensive traffic over a period of time. Epoxy based paints and coatings will provide as a strong a coating as can be found and the cleanup is easy when the need arises. Some applications require the mixing of paints and hardening agents. All surfaces must be well cleaned prior to the application of the epoxy coating. Failure to clean and prepare the surface can create issues with the coating lifting or not adhering correctly. Many epoxy paints can be sealed with a clear polymer sealant after application for further protection.
Finding an epoxy paint system to apply to a floor is relatively easy. Most home improvement centers have some type of epoxy floor paint available. Caution should be used to purchase the correct type of coating. Many cement floor paints are not epoxy and do not provide the same level of protection. True epoxy paints are also available at paint stores such as Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore. Home improvement centers such as Lowes and The Home Depot now carry their own brands of epoxy floor paints. Companies such a U Coat It specifically manufacture a line of industrial floor paints and sealants made with special formulas of epoxy and polymers. These floor coverings provide superior protection and long life.
Applying an epoxy based floor paint is relatively easy. The application is much the same as painting, although some cautions must be followed. As this paint is specially formulated to provide a hard surface coating, the products contain special polymers and hardening agents. The products will harden quickly once exposed to the air and caution should be taken to work with small amounts to insure that the liquid paint does not harden too quickly and become unusable. Additionally, as with any paint product, proper ventilation is necessary to insure that the fumes do not cause dizziness and nausea while the paint is being applied. Purchasing and applying an epoxy floor paint will save time and money.
