Choosing The Best Basement Floor Paint

If you are planning to remodel your basement, the first step would be to use a good paint on the basement floor. By painting it appropriately you can get a cost effective flooring which can turn the space into a great spot for office, lounge area or even a playroom for your children. If you are not sure about what kind of paint has to be used, here are a few tips to choose the best basement floor paint.

There are different kinds of paints which can be used for painting the basement floor. Of these, the most popular types include the acrylic and epoxy paints. Epoxy paint is extremely durable water-based paint which is resistant to oil and grease. These paints are also very effective sealants which can be used for waterproofing the basement. The floor is easy to clean also. For simple looking, water resistant floor you can use the basement floor paints. They are also very durable.

While choosing the colors you want to use, be very careful. Dark colors and black are known to absorb light. So you can use such colors if you want to have a subtle decor. While bright and warm colors add more light to your basement area. Since the basement requires more lighting than the normal rooms it is always better to choose lighter shades for making the room brighter and livelier. This also makes the room appear bigger. If you like a particular shade of color you can make it more attractive or brighter by adding white paint along with it.

Since the paints are available in different colors and finishes you can choose appropriate shades or finishes according to how you are going to use the room. If you want to use the room as a living area, children’s room or an office you can use the satin finish. It is not only very attractive but is also very easy to maintain. If you are going to paint the floor yourself you can pick a paint which does not require a primer. Water-based epoxy paints are easy to clean and have low odor.

For your concrete floor you have to apply the acrylic paint using a roller. After applying the first coat you have to let it dry completely to apply the next coat. Apply two coats of the primer and then begin with the actual paint. Also use stain blocker to support the paint. Applying two coats will be more than enough to get perfect basement floor paint.
